What would you say is the purpose of the "Introduction" to The Beggar's Opera, in which the Beggar and the Player converse on stage prior to the beginning of the first act?

The introduction demonstrates the juxtaposing entities of the lower class and upper class as is represented by the Beggar and Player respectively. Embodied in the personage of the Beggar and Player are the dichotomous qualities of "both high styles and low subjects" (2718), an uncharacteristic fusion of personality/class/identity types, and an aspect of Gay's literary "mocking" technique which ultimately prepares the reader/audience for the satiric display that follows.
