I just want to remind everyone that, as the syllabus says, we will not be having class on Monday because of Yom Kippur. Your next reading assignment is for class on Wednesday and can be found in the syllabus.
I will be holding extra office hours on Tuesday (9/29) from 1:30 to 2:30. If you did not get your paper back in class on Friday, you can pick it up then. If you wish to revise your paper, revisions will be due in class on Friday (10/2), and you must hand in your original marked-up paper along with the revision.
Good Yom Tov!

I think the lines 341-342,
"The Guardians yield, by Force superior ply'd;
By Int'rest, Prudence; and by Flatt'ry, Pride."
are ones that provide a powerful insight into the influence of Vanity. Human culture has always undermine their own good nature by relying upon unfair comparisons to another's natural talents and looks.
Even the powerful break at the knees when met with false flattery that blinds the common sense. Vanity that fetters humility and feeds the overblown ego. Those superior forces over take the "guardian" mantra of the good nature in humanity. If those that are seen as incapable of submitting to Vanity's derivatives do, then there seems little hope in a just and right human morality.
